Lonicerae Japonicae Flos is a commonly used traditional Chinese medicine for the treatment of the exopathogenic wind-heat,epidemic febrile diseases,sores,carbuncles,swelling and some infectious diseases.Several different classes of compounds have been separated from this herb,including essential oils,organic acids,flavones,iridoids and saponins,etc.The modern pharmacological studies show that Lonicerae Japonicae Flos has various pharmacological actions,such as anti-inflammatory,antibacterial,antiviral,antioxidant and other activities,which is widely used in food,cosmetics and health beverage.This article aims at reviewing the recent literatures on herbal textual research,historical inclusion in Chinese Pharmacopoeia,resource distribution,chemical constituents,pharmacological activities,as well as quality control methods of Lonicerae Japonicae Flos so as to provide reference for its further investigation and safety monitoring.
